After a busy week I finally managed to fully pack my bike and take it for the final test ride before the start of La Velodyssee on Wednesday April 24th.
Visit from the KOM thief…
My friend Neil and his family were visiting us in France for an Easter break. Now Neil is a GB Age Group Triathlete and his ‘Easy Ride’ is (at least) my ‘Tempo Ride’. I also made the mistake of telling him about a Strava KOM that I had on a short but fairly steep local hill, so he knocked 19 seconds off my 1:59 and took the KOM! Nineteen Seconds!!
Visitors often means plenty of good food, Leffe Beer and red wine…this one was no exception! We did manage a nice ride to Coulon for some lunch which gave me a chance to get in a reasonably long ride to test the legs. I wanted to do it at ‘tour effort’. It ended being a little more challenging but Neil thankfully went easy on me.
Test Ride
After Neil and the family left on Saturday morning it was time to get all my kit together and pack the bike. The job of packing and checking I had everything I needed took most of the afternoon. We needed to make a trip into town to buy the last few essentials, so I didn’t actually get to ride the bike fully loaded until Sunday.
I am pleased to say that everything went according to plan when I eventually got to take the fully loaded bike on a short test ride. We even stopped for a cup of tea after filling the Thermos before leaving!
Good luck on the tour Steve – looking forward to following it on here. Still can’t believe that guy who wouls not let us pass over his bridge!
Thanks Neil. On the way to Roscoff this morning then the cycling starts, most likely in the rain, on Wednesday.
Good luck Steve, hope you have a great time.
Thanks Julia & Trevor. How Can I do anything but have a great time!? See you both soon. đź‘Ť
